What is Your Why?

It can be a struggle to get things done. We create lists and goals in hopes that we can accomplish them. And yet, we feel unmotivated and even frozen in our progress. To say we just need to do this or that because it needs to get done is not enough at times. This is especially true for large life goals. We need to know our “why” because that is what we use to stay the course.

For example, I love to walk. I love to get outside daily and walk this body of mine. I know it is good for me. I know that fresh air clears the mind. But sometimes that is not enough motivation to get me out there when it is cloudy or I have tons of other things to do. So, I have to know my “why.” What do I want to be known for? What really matters to me, so I don’t even question going out for my daily walk? Some of my deep “whys” for walking are 1. Mental clarity. 2. Cardio health. 3. Endurance. 4. Consistency. 5. Putting myself first before I take on the day. My “whys” are solid and they motivate me so that walking is not a struggle. I get so much out of it that it brings my joy because of my “whys.”

What are some of the things that you want to get done in your life? What are things that you have been putting off? Make a list of these things and then next to them, write down your “whys.” Sometimes just having the awareness of the why behind the tasks or goals can be helpful in gaining some clarity. Do you feel you need to accomplish the task or goal for someone else or are you wanting to do it for you? Knowing that will help you prioritize your lists.

Think about it and let me know what thoughts come to mind. 👌
